​​​The Village of Chester Police Department regrets to announce the passing of Officer John “Jack” Courtenay. Officer Courtenay has been serving the Chester Community for well over 25 years as both a Police Officer and Firefighter. Jack began serving the Chester community in the late 1980s when he joined the Walton Engine and Hose Company.  He served as firefighter and Company President.  As he continued to volunteer for the Fire Department he also became a full time Police Officer in the community, first as a Town of Chester Officer and then with the Village of Chester PD. Jack and his wife, Tara have 3  young daughters that range in age from 13-16.  Officer Courtenay has donated three quarters of his life to public service as a police officer and a firefighter always helping others. Now during his passing we rely on the community to see to it that his young children are taken care of and at the same time help keep his memory alive. His dedication to his family and his community is a true reflection of the selflessness he exuded throughout his life and for that we salute him.

Viewing will be Monday, 23 July 3-5 pm and 7-9pm at Flynn’s Funeral Home, 139 Stage Rd, Monroe, NY. The 7-9pm viewing will include police and fire services. Tuesday 24 July, there will be an 11am mass at St. Columba Church, State Route 94 in Chester, NY.

​This fundraiser has been set up in conjunction with the Village of Chester PBA to assist the family during this emotional and traumatic time. It will also off-set any cost incurred by the family and assist with the future of his three young children.  Let's stand behind Officer Courtenay's family and show his daughters what our brotherhood is all about.
